The Education USA Counseling
Office of the Centro Cultural Colombo Americano Barranquilla, is
a global network of more than 450 centers in the world which are aided
by the Agency for Cultural & Educational Relations of the United
States Department of State.
The mission of the Education
USA Centers is to promote higher level education in the United
States, by providing exact, objective and timely information about
study opportunities. In Barranquilla, we operate from our public
bilingual library located in the annex across the street from the
Colombo. From this office we provide information about the United
States educational system, standardized admission exams (TOEFL, SAT,
GRE, GMAT), student exchange programs, graduate and undergraduate
programs, intensive English courses, Amity Program (teacher exchange),
financial aid and student visas. We also provide free, periodic
lectures on these subjects and for those who need more information or
need help with admission forms, we offer special sessions for a very
reasonable price.

advisor trained by the United States Department of State.

Our center houses the George
Washington Public Bilingual Library with a collection of approximately
6,132 books distributed equally in English and Spanish, covering Formal
Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Religion, Administration,
Marketing, Literature and Arts.
We alsohave a section dedicated to teaching and learning English, the
Reference section, U.S. Government, History, Education, Geography and a
specialized section dedicated to children, which provides a
legacy of knowledge and creativity for future generations.We also have subscriptions for
33 well known magazines such as: Architectural Digest, Art in America,
National Geographic, Fortune, Time, Vogue, QG, People, Good
Housekeeping, Seventeen, Bon Appetite, Self, Psychology Today,
National Geographic for Kids, Rolling Stones, Semana, and Cambio
among others.
The Library is a free service
for the entire community and is located in our annex, across the
Colombo: carrera 43 No.52. Our hours are: Monday through
Friday from 8:00 A.M. until 7:30 P.M. and Saturdays from 9:00 A.M.
until 12:00 N. and 1:30 to 4:00 P.M. Those interested in borrowing
books, must affiliate with the Library by bringing two ID pictures,
donate two books and pay a reasonable price for the membership.

The user is awarded a small prize that promotes reading (book, magazine or book mark). The July´s user of the Month was Wilfrido Solano, who is who is twenty year old student of Electronics. Activities for Children: The George Washington Public Bilingual Library offers fun activities for children from 5-13 years old on Saturdays from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at no cost. The
Colombian American Cultural Center offers the Barranquilla community a
unique
bilingual, multimedia room with the following
services: AUDIO This
service will help you perfect your listening and pronountiation
abilities. We count with more than 200 books and cassettes about
grammar,
pronunciation, phonetics, literature & music. In addition we offer
a great variety of
cassetes to help you preparate for international examinations such
as: GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, MICHIGAN
INTERNACIONAL Y MET CD-ROM We have over 72 CD-ROMs that will help you reinforce your knowledge in English areas such as: Listening, Pronunciation, Grammar & Vocabulary. VIDEO to
improve your listening comprehension and pronountiation there is
nothing better
than a good video, we offer more than 1200 films in in Beta, VHS and
DVD so
you can
choose the one of your preference.
We offer
individual and groupal courses on introduction to Internet and
permanent consueling of our staff. Our schedule to the public is as
follows:
